Here are a few ways that can help you improve your recall capacity.

  • Visualization – in simple words convert words into pictures. It has been proven that we tend to retain visual cues better than words, and secondly the more senses we involve in making a memory with any information the more easily we’ll be able to recall that information. For example if you need to remember to turn in your assignment at 4:00 pm tomorrow afternoon, you should visualise yourself packing away your completed assignment book and placing an alarm clock that reads 4:00 pm. This pastes a vivid picture in your memory, improving your recalling capabilities.
  • *Rhymes *– Create rhymes with the information you need to memorize, or with facts around it. This is a very good tool to recall information, as you will recall the rhyme that holds all the information in it.
  • *Mnemonics *– Mnemonics is a learning technique where we translate information into a form that the brain can retain better than its original form. Examples of mnemonics include ROY G. BIV for the spectrum of colors (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet), RICE for the instructions of treating a sprain (Rest the injured area, Ice the sprain, Compress with a wrap or bandage, Elevate the injured area), or My Very Educated Mother Just Showed Us Nine Planets for remembering the names of the nine planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, & Pluto).

Use these fun techniques to help you recall information better, and save you time reading, and rereading the same thing again and again because you are unable to remember it. It is better to study smart!
